Important: Examination Dates for the Real Estate Salesperson (RES) Examination in October and November 2020

The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) has resumed the conduct of the RES examination in September 2020. Taking into consideration the COVID-19 situation and guidelines from the Multi-Ministry Taskforce, we plan to conduct two RES examinations in October and November 2020. We will adopt safe management measures to ensure that the examination is held in a safe and controlled manner for all candidates and personnel administering the examination. The safe management measures include the following:

a. A capacity limit of 50 person for each room;
b. Maintaining distance of at least 1.5 metres between candidates;
c. Use of Safe Entry system with temperature screening at entrances of premises;
d. Staggered timings for reporting and dismissal;
e. Wearing of masks throughout the examination;
f. Dedicated access to toilets for each zone and staggered toilet usage; and
g. Cleaning of rooms and toilets after each examination session.

All candidates are required to adhere to the safe management measures imposed during the examination days.

NOTE: Failure to comply with the prescribed measures will result in candidates being disqualified from the examination. Candidates may also be barred from taking future examinations.

As announced in June 2020, candidates who registered for the February 2020 RES examination will be given priority for the next examination. Priority registration for the examination slots in October and November 2020 will be given to February candidates who have not successfully registered for the September 2020 examination. Candidates eligible for priority registration and who intend to sit for the October 2020 examination will have to register no later than 30 September 2020, and registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis. SEAMEO Regional Language Centre (RELC) will be writing directly to the candidates who are eligible for priority registration after the September 2020 RES examination to provide them with the registration link and information on registration for the October 2020 examinations. Please note that no further priority will be extended to the February 2020 RES examination candidates beyond the November 2020 RES examination.

For the October 2020 RES examinations, CEA will only open the registration to all other candidates from 1 to 7 October 2020 if there are available slots after 30 September 2020.

The registration dates for the November 2020 RES examination will be announced at a later date.

Please visit the RELC website for the latest updates on the RES examination registration opening and closing dates. In the event that there is any change in the COVID-19 situation and safe management measures advised by the Multi-Ministry Taskforce, CEA reserves the right to cancel or postpone the scheduled RES examination.

Future RES Examinations

As announced in June 2020, CEA has extended the RES course certificate validity period by one year for course participants who have completed the RES course on any date from 22 February 2018 to 30 April 2020 (both dates inclusive). As we expect a high demand for the October 2020 RES examination, and with priority given to candidates who were affected by the cancellation of the February 2020 RES examination, we seek the understanding of course participants that we may not be able to accept all applications to register for the October 2020 examination. Candidates who are unsuccessful can register for future examinations with the extension of the validity of the RES course certificate.

We are working towards confirming the dates for the examinations in 2021. Updates will be posted on CEA and RELC’s websites in due course.

CEA Real Estate Salesperson (RES) Examination
Important Notice: Following PM Lee’s announcement on 21 April 2020 that the circuit breaker period will be extended till 1 June 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has implemented tighter measures to minimise further spread of COVID-19. In particular, an elevated set of safe distancing measures has been implemented from 22 April 2020 to 1 June 2020 (both dates inclusive). During this period, schools and workplace premises will be closed, save for very essential services. The Government has urged all Singaporeans to minimise movements and interactions in public and private places, and stay home unless necessary for essential purposes. For the safety of all candidates and the community, CEA will abide by MOH’s advisories and will cancel the June 2020 RES examination. We are monitoring the situation closely and will work towards confirming the next available examination date, to give candidates an opportunity to sit for the examination as soon as possible. Updates will be posted on the CEA and Regional Language Centre (RELC) websites. We are aware that the cancellation of the June 2020 RES examination will impact those who had prepared and intended to register for the examination, especially candidates who had registered for the February 2020 RES examination that was also cancelled. Hence, we will be giving priority to candidates who had registered for the February 2020 RES examination to register for the next available examination. RELC will be writing directly to these candidates when the next examination date has been confirmed. In addition, we will be extending the course certificate validity period by one year for course participants who had completed the RES course on any date from 22 February 2018 to 30 April 2020 (both dates inclusive). As we expect a higher demand for the next available RES examination, we seek the understanding of course participants who complete the RES course after 30 April 2020 that they may not be able to register for the next available examination. This is because priority will be given to candidates who had registered for the February 2020 RES examination that was cancelled. Course participants who complete the RES course after 30 April 2020 should register for later examination dates instead. Find more information in the FAQs below.

CEA Real Estate Salesperson (RES) Examination

Under the new regulatory framework administered by the Council for Estate Agencies (CEA), one of the registration criteria for property agents is that they must pass the CEA’s Real Estate Salesperson (RES) Examination or have equivalent qualification. This is to ensure that property agents intending to do estate agency work are well-qualified, professionally competent and possess a basic level of knowledge in real estate industry and property related matters.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

With the tighter measures announced by the Government on 21 April 2020 to further minimize the spread of COVID-19 in Singapore, the temporary closure of SEAMEO RELC’s office will be extended from 4 May 2020 till further notice from the authorities. During this period, please send any enquiry via email to res@relc.org.sg
