All candidates who are interested to apply for teaching positions with the Ministry of Education are to register for the Mother Tongue Language (MTL) Entrance Proficiency Test (EPT) via the Ministry. The Ministry will assist you with the EPT registration if you are found suitable and you have been shortlisted for employment after the interview with the Ministry.
Components of (Chinese/Malay/Tamil) EPT
Part 1 involves a test of oral proficiency. Candidates are required to read aloud a passage and deliver a short speech without notes on a given topic(s). They will be given a few minutes to preview the reading passage and prepare for the speech.
Part 2 involves a test of written proficiency. Candidates are tested on their knowledge of grammar, vocabulary usage and stylistic features of the language and reading comprehension. They are also required to write a short composition.
Timing of (Chinese/Malay/Tamil) EPT
Part 1 commences approximately at 9.00am (for Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages).
Part 2 commences at 2.00pm and ends at 4.00pm (for Chinese, Malay and Tamil languages).
For each proficiency test, inclusive of BOTH Oral and Written components.
RELC will send you a notification email containing a Payment Code. You are required to input this payment code into the AXS machine when you are making payment at the station.
The AXS receipt serves as the official proof of payment. RELC EB will NOT issue any other receipt.
Cards Accepted at AXS Station:
Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards from Citibank, DBS/POSB, Maybank, OCBC, Standard Chartered Bank and UOB. The amount to be deducted is limited by the daily payment limit set by you with your bank.
Diners Club Card and DBS/POSB Credit Card. The payment limit is determined by Diners Club or your bank. Please contact Diners Club or your bank's Customer Service if you encounter any problem while making payment at the station.

You are required to complete all the fields in the e-Registration form (where applicable). A Letter of Notification regarding the test date, time and venue will be emailed to candidates about 3 working days prior to the test.
The Statement of Results will be released about 4 to 6 weeks from the test date via email to candidates who have registered for the test:
A pass in the Chinese, Malay or Tamil EPT: the results will be valid for a period of 2 years.
