CLOTHES A long time ago, traditional clothes are worn everyday. It is called traditional because the clothes are heritage from generation to generation. But some traditional clothes are only worn on special occasion like while dancing a special dance on a special day. These days traditional clothes are only worn by the elders, youngsters have lost interest in traditional clothes a long time ago. As an example , the baju melayu is only worn on Fridays when the Muslim men perform their Jumaat prayer and during Hari Raya. Teenagers tend to wear clothes according to trends by artists, models or friends. They think that by wearing traditional clothes they are old-fashion. A girl who is wearing a baju kurung going shopping at a shopping complex will be stared at. The future of traditional clothes are in our hands, the teenegers, the future leaders. Traditional clothes should be preserved and not let it be forgotten. This can be done by wearing them. a fashion designer could blend in the aspects of traditional and modern into one piece and make it a new garment. People living in the city have already forgotten about traditional clothes these days. Only people who live in the villages still remembers them. Village people tend to wear traditional clothes everyday even when working. But the clothes are not as colorful as the real traditional clothes. While people living in the big cities clothed themselves with western style suites to do business well with clients or as we call them outsiders. Traditional clothes is very important in identifying ones ancestry. As an example the baju kebaya was actually from the baba and nyonya people in Malacca and is not a real Malays traditional clothes. In a nutshell, traditional clothes have to be preserve to keep the history, cultures and customs of our ancestors will not be lost in time.
