Curriculum and Instructional Planning “Like general problem solving models, curriculum and instructional planning is a complex process which uses both divergent and convergent thinking as initial ideas are first generated, broadened and then refined into set instructional patterns. The following suggestions may help.” Curriculum Development Resources “If you've been asked to develop a course, and you've never done it before, don't panic. Although the resources on this site can't do the job for you, they can certainly clarify the process.” “The following links are designed to help you plan your curriculum. Some are planning tools and others are complete online curricula designed by Alachua County's finest educators.” Curriculum Planning Guidelines “The guidelines have five phases: Understanding the context; Planning and resourcing, Implementation; Continuous monitoring; and Evaluation and review. For each of these levels there are readings, tools and related websites to support discussion and decision making. In the Implementation section there are school and cluster stories.” “This digest focuses specifically on two of these standards, developing language and literacy across the curriculum and connecting school to students' lives, and provides examples of how they are implemented in the classroom. Indicators are introduced for each standard, revealing its action components and their functions in teaching and learning.” Good Practice - Curriculum Development This website belongs to Queen’s University Centre for Teaching and Learning. “This site provides information on: guidelines for curriculum development, references, developing a syllabus, developing a lesson plan, setting goals and more.” Insights into Language Curriculum Development “This paper presents results from an exploratory case study of curriculum development processes at three Japanese universities. It considers the possible influence of “The Action Plan to develop ‘Japanese with English abilities’” (Ministry of Education, 2003), reviews models of curriculum development from theory and compares those to data collected from informants working at the three institutions.” NACELL Best Practice Guide: Planning the Curriculum “When you are deciding how the new language might fit into your school curriculum and what you might teach” the documents in this website should be helpful. Below is a "road map" for teachers who wish to enhance their knowledge base and repertoire of teaching strategies for promoting language and literacy development with bilingual learners.” Suggested Prompts to Assist in Drafting a Whole School Plan for English “The suggested prompts are designed to assist the planning process. Using the prompts should lead to a whole school development plan for English, tailored to suit the context of the individual school. As these prompts are very comprehensive some of the suggestions/questions may not apply to an individual school. Likewise there may be others that should/could be included. Amendments should be made as required by individual schools.”
