Directory of English Language Scholars And Researchers in SEAMEO Countries

The Regional Language Centre (RELC) of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) was founded in 1968 in response to the needs of the region for proficiency in English which is considered essential for economic , social, scientific and techonological advancement. The Centre has since played a major role in strengthening English language teaching programmes in the member countries by training key personnel, conducting research and development programmes and disseminating information through publications, seminars and conferences and library and information services. Throughout the years innumerable individuals have been involved in teaching English at national and institutional levels, hence the need to identify those who are able to make significant contributions to the improvement of English language teaching and research.


Objectives^TOP

The objectives of the Directory of English Language Scholars and Researchers in SEAMEO Countries therefore are:

  • To provide a comprehensive record of scholars and researchers in the field of English language teaching and research in the SEAMEO member countries;
  • To assist various institutions in identifying scholars and researchers for special institutional needs;
  • To enable scholars and researchers to network for the sharing of contemporary research and new ideas;
  • To act as a guide for institutions and individuals to chart possible directions for future research.


Criteria for Inclusion

The main criteria for inclusion of individuals are the following :
  1. Individuals must be SEAMEO nationals
  2. Individuals should have at least a master's degree or equivalent related to English language and any two of the following:

  • Five years of teaching/research related to English language
  • Academic rank equivalent to assistant professor/lecturer
  • Three scholarly publications, including published articles, chapters in books, conference papers
  • Committee member of professional associations
  • Presented papers at regional and international seminars, workshops, conferences.


Any SEAMEO national who meets these criteria is welcome to complete and submit the data indicated. Subject to acceptance the data will be included in the Directory. At any time data may be updated by the individual.
